Law Enforcement Recognitions & Achievements:

Commendation from the Office of the Sheriff:

On October 6, 2013 at 8:30 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Communications Center received a report of an armed robbery in progress at the Culver’s Restaurant in the Village of Jackson, which required use of lethal force by on-scene officers. For my “professionalism and dedication to duty taking charge of the scene during this high-risk incident” I was awarded a Commendation from the Office of the Sheriff.

Acknowledgment from the Office of the Sheriff:

On February 19, 2013, I was recognized for my “outstanding accomplishment that improved Sheriff’s Office operations”. This honor was the result of my dedicated efforts conducting a multi-year data analysis of prisoner transport costs, researching transport contract services and subsequently implementing and managing the contract. “The contract has provided efficiencies resulting in an estimated $67,000 savings on transport costs for 2012”, which continues to be an ongoing annual savings to the taxpayers. “Sergeant Guslick has been directly responsible for the success of the contracted transport services.”

Cost Saving Strategic Operations Plan:

My leadership of a strategic operations plan to use part-time Deputies in the Courthouse, resulted in increased Courthouse security and the ability to redeploy full-time Deputies to other areas of operation to increase services provided to citizens. This operating plan saves Washington County taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.

Personal Recognitions & Achievements:

  • Eagle Scout: I am proud of my accomplishment of the rank of Eagle Scout.

  • Order of the Arrow: I was honored to be selected for induction into the Order of the Arrow, an organization within Boy Scouts dedicated to selfless service.
  • National Honor Society - Phi Theta Kappa: My strong drive and desire to always do my best, led to my induction into the National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa.

I obtained my Police Science Degree from Madison College. This decision followed an initial career in drafting and mechanical design in the engineering department of a manufacturing company. While working in this private sector position, I simultaneously studied at a private technical college and attended courses through the UW System. My experience in the private sector taught me critical skills resulting in the ability to effectively identify operational efficiencies allowing reallocation of resources in a more strategic manner within existing budgets and timelines.
